The Parliament Full cigarette is a great smoke. Its gotten a bad reputation as of late for being popular among the “hipster” crowd. However I tend not to really buy into classifications like that and decided to go ahead and purchase a pack regardless of the stereotypes, and I’m glad that I did. Parliament is made by the Phillip Morris Tobacco Group and therefore can be expected to be a high quality cigarette. I was not let down. They are basically a Marlboro Red at a premium cigarette price (here in Minnesota). You may ask “why don’t just buy Marb Reds?” Well, to that I would say Parliament cigarettes have something special that to me warrants the higher price. The unique feature of Parliament cigarettes is their recessed filter. The filter on Parliaments is set back about a quarter inch into the cylinder. Its a simple thing but I love the way it keeps the dirty filter off of my lips. Its not normally a problem but when I am busy with my hands or its too cold to have my hand out then I clench the cigarette in my lips. In those cases the recessed filter is great. With standard filters I tend to get a dirty ashtray taste in my mouth when I clench the cigarette. However, with Parliaments I don’t get any unwanted tastes because the recessed filter keeps the filtered out tar and chemicals away from my mouth. This feature was originally intended for WWII snipers who clenched their cigarettes and I can definitely see how these new filters would have been appreciated in that situation. I myself enjoy smoking Parliaments while out hunting. So for those who like to clench their cigarettes the recessed filter is well worth the extra 50 cents.
As for the ratings I’ll give the flavor of these cigarettes a 8 out of 10. They have a great, slightly sweet cigarette taste to them but can get a little bland toward the end of the pack. The aroma of this cigarette is also very pleasing, a solid 9 out of 10. Very sweet and woodsy aroma to the smoke. The burn quality of Parliament Full is very good. I think the paper may be a bit thinner than the paper used on Marlboro Reds because the cigarette itself is a bit lighter and the cigarette burns quite a bit faster. The cigarette burns very even which makes up for the faster burn so overall I’ll give the burn quality of this cigarette a 7 out of 10. The pack design gets a solid 9 out of 10. Very clean, very simple and very classy. Nicotine content of this cigarette is also pretty good. First thing in the morning it gives you a nice buzz. Throughout the rest of the day it give you a pretty average buzz, not overpowering but you definitely feel it. 10 out of 10, very satisfying. Overall, this is a definite buy again pack for me. I’ll give Parliament Fulls a 8 out of 10! They are a pretty decent cigarette flavor, aroma, burn, nicotine and design wise but the recessed filter for me pushes these a bit further for me. In my opinion these are great cigarettes.
Parliament Full Flavor
Personally I don’t buy into the Generic/Standard/Premium cigarette categories. I view it as a marketing technique. Take Phillip Morris cigarettes for an example. Marlboro is their flagship cigarette and is therefor sold as their standard $5.50 a pack (here in Minnesota) cigarette across the country. While other Phillip Morris cigarettes such as L&M and Parliament are sold as premium and generic cigarettes differently in different states. L&M here in Minnesota is sold as a generic $4.80 a pack cigarette. While next door in Wisconsin L&M is a premium $6.00 + cigarette. Then Parliament cigarettes are sold as a premium brand in Minnesota but they are a generic brand in Wisconsin. Having smoked Parliament Fulls, L&M Reds and Marlboro Reds in my opinion they are all the same tobacco blend in different packaging. I can’t be sure why different brands are sold as premium in one state but then generic in the next but, my guess is its a marketing technique to boost sales in certain areas to keep sales even across the country. If a premium cigarette is selling low in one state then change its pricing to a generic price to boost sales. Or if a generic brand has gained a high level of regular smokers then make it a Premium priced cigarette to boost profits. Anyway, thats just my personal opinion on the topic. Whatever you choose to smoke enjoy it!
Erik Nording Labrador is a hazelnut aromatic blend of ribbon cut Burley and Virginia tobaccos, as well as rough cut Black Cavendish tobaccos. This is a very light, very sweet and nutty blend. The tin note of this blend is beyond fantastic! It smells like toasted hazelnuts and caramel. This is the only cased tobacco out of the Nording Hunters Series. This is very flavorful for an aromatic. Not only dose it have the fantastic aroma of hazelnuts it actually has the flavor as well. A high quality blend that will not give you tongue bite no matter how hard you puff.
The tin description reads:
A classic blend of smooth fragrant Black Cavendish mellow Burley and sweet Virginia, enhanced with a light caramel-hazelnut note. Rich and satisfying.
Rather spot on in my opinion.
The flavor and aroma of this blend both get a solid 8 out of 10, they are both great and pleasant but could be a little more full. The room note has to be a 10 on this one. Sweet, nutty and very pleasant. The burn quality is also great. Nording blends always tend to light well and smoke down without much if any relighting. This gets a 10 out of 10! The nicotine content on this blend is a bit higher than most aromatic blends but not too strong. A nice 7 out of 10. Overall this is a very well rounded aromatic blend, not too weak, not too strong. However it could do with a bit stronger of a flavor. This blend dose tend to have the typical aromatic problem of not being as flavorful as I would like. However this is overall a great blend and I’ll give it a solid 8 out of 10!

The classic Pall Mall unfiltered cigarette is one of my favorite cigarettes so far. sweet and nutty with a very strong and flavorful woodsy note. The flavor has almost a cedar hint to it. Absolutely great! The first thing you notice when pulling the cigarette out of the pack is the length of it. Unlike most unfiltered cigarettes this one isn’t a king sized with the filtered pulled off making it very short. This is a full length king sized cigarette. This makes for a much longer smoke than standard unfiltered cigarettes and the tobacco seems to work as a natural filter making for a very smooth smoke with almost no harshness. These are a much classier cigarette than regular Pall Malls and seem to have a higher quality of tobacco in them.
Flavor wise i give these a 10 out of 10. Very full with sweet, nutty and woodsy tastes. These also smell pretty good from a smokers point of view, strong tobacco smell with a hint of cedar in it. 9 out of 10. The burn of these cigarettes is also a high point. First and foremost is the length of these cigarettes. Being longer than most unfiltered smokes these last as long as a normal cigarette giving you more time to enjoy the wonderful full flavor and full strength of a unfiltered cigarette. The burn gets a solid 10 out of 10! I also love the pack design, a standard Pall Mall red on a soft pack with the Pall Mall seal in the center. Very classy, 9 out of 10. The nicotine content on these is also great! Like all unfiltered cigarettes, when not treated with respect and enjoyed these will kick your ass! These are not the kind of cigarettes you smoke just to get your nicotine fix. These are the kind of cigarettes you smoke when you plan to kick back and relax for ten minutes with a cup of coffee and some music. For those situations I’ll give the nicotine content a 10 out of 10. Overall these are some of the best cigarettes you can get your hands on for a decent price. So far my favorite unfiltered cigarettes! Even more flavorful than Lucky Strike, and far smoother and easier to smoke than Camels. Overall I give this cigarette a very strong 9 out of 10! Damn good!

The Natural American Spirit Mellow Menthol is an overall pretty decent cigarette. This is the light green Spirit box. These are essentially light menthol cigarettes. Thin paper and a very perforated filter allow for plenty of air to dilute the smoke making for a very smooth, mellow smoke. The menthol on these can be a bit overwhelming. Since American Spirits never adds anything to their tobacco they instead use a natural menthol substance in the filter. The smoke and air pass through the filter bringing the strong menthol with them. The menthol in these is similar to the Camel Crush Bold cigarettes. A bit more than i would prefer. However they do still have a good tobacco taste to them (unlike the Camel Crush cigarettes). They use the same blend of tobacco that is in the standard blue pack of American Spirits.
The taste of these cigarettes is a very strong minty menthol with a background taste of American Spirit tobacco. The menthol is a little overwhelming and leaves a odd after taste so for that reason i will only give these a four out of five. Since there is no menthol added to the actual tobacco the aroma is the same as standard Spirits. A good sweet and nutty scent, eight out of ten. The burn quality is the same as all Spirits, a good smooth and long lasting even burn. The burn is a solid nine. The draw on these cigarettes is very open and smooth. However, the thin paper and the perforations dilute the smoke too much for my tastes, if you like light cigarettes then I’d say its around an eight for draw, but, this is an opinion based review and since I prefer stronger smokes I only give the draw a four out of ten. The smoke is simply too airy for me. Nicotine content is also a bit of a soar spot for me. When the smoke is diluted by air it also loses some nicotine. Though I don’t like a ton of nicotine in my smokes I do like to feel it. With these I just don’t. That being said I am not a light cigarette guy so these may be good for someone who is but I am only going to give the nicotine content a four out of ten. Pack design however i do like. The pack is light green (indicating light menthol) with the standard American Spirit design. Overall for my personal tastes I give this cigarette a five out of ten. Too light and too strong of a menthol for my tastes.

I happen to be a big fan of American Spirit cigarettes. I like the fact that their cigarettes are additive free, all natural whole leaf tobacco. They seem more pure than other cigarettes, more like i feel cigarettes should be. The perique blend is special. They mix the standard American Spirit tobacco with perique tobacco. Perique tobacco is something special. It is only grown in St. James Perish, Louisiana. Being a pipe smoker i greatly appreciate the use of perique tobacco. Some of my favorite pipe blends are perique blends, turns out to be the same for cigarettes. The perique adds a spicy flavor with hints of very dark fruity sweetness. Perique is described as pepper and plum. This comes through well with these cigarettes. These being the medium bodied version of the black box of perique Spirits they have a perforated filter. This allows air to mix with the smoke making the gray box much smoother and easier to smoke than the black box perique blend. I have also found that the perforated filters allow for a much easier draw that Spirits are known for. The added air also seems to enhance the sweetness of this blend holding off the dark peppery taste until the exhale.
The Flavor on these cigarettes is very unique and very good. I’ll give the sweet pepper plum flavor of these cigarettes a solid ten out of ten. Aroma wise, they remain at the same level of excellence. The smell these cigarettes put off is very woodsy with a peppery quality to it. The burn quality also is very good, even, and slow. One of the reasons i love American Spirits is the length of the smoke. If I take my time and really relax and enjoy my smoke these last a good ten to fifteen minutes. I give the burn quality a nine. The draw on these cigarettes is fantastic as well! The perforations make for a easy smooth draw with very little harshness in the back of the throat. Draw gets a ten out of ten! Nicotine wise these hit the mark as well. If smoked first thing in the morning or on an empty stomach it may be leaning toward a bit much but, in regular situations is a great daily smoke, eight out of ten. The packaging is also pretty good, simple grey box with the standard American Spirit graphics will get this box a modest seven out of ten. So overall you can probably guess that i love this cigarette! This gets a ten out of ten all the way! Its unique, tasty, sweet yet robust, strong and very high quality, and excellent smoke!

Earlier this week i picked up a pack of the hard to find Lucky Strikes. Introduced in 1871 Theses are the definition of a classic. Lucky Strikes were distributed to our troops in WWII and remains popular to this day among military members. Luckies were also the best selling brand in the 1930’s and its not hard to see why. First off the packaging is great. Just a simple classic white soft pack with the black red and grey Lucky Strike logo, the way its been for over a century. Then, there is the tobacco. The tobacco in Luckies is a classic blend of toasted burly and viginia tobaccos. This blend gives Luckies their unique sweet and nutty flavor.
I give the flavor of Lucky Strike a ten out of ten, simply fantastic. Sweet, nutty, full flavored and very full bodied. The aroma on Luckies is also quite fantastic. They smell very woodsy with a slight hint of sweetness to the smoke. I’ll give the aroma a nine out of ten. I will give the burn quality of Lucky Strikes a seven out of ten. They burn nice and even but as with most unfiltered cigarettes they burn faster than i would like. I was very pleased with the draw on these cigarettes. Being unfiltered the draw was very free and smooth. I also don’t seem to get tobacco flakes in my mouth near as much with Luckies as i do with Camel Unfiltered. Draw gets a ten out of ten. Luckies are VERY full bodied and put of a ton of smoke, i personally love a good smokey cig so i’ll give that a ten as well. Then there is the packaging. As i stated above i think the package is great. Just good old classic American cigarettes. Nothing too fancy just simple, to the point and elegant in an odd blue collar way. I give the packaging another ten out of ten. Finally there is the nicotine content. Luckies pack a punch! Yet not in the same way as Camel Unfiltered. These give you a nice kind of background nicotine buzz. Not overpowering in any way but you will feel it for sure. Just a nice relaxing classic that taxes you back to the good ol’ days of five and dimes, beautiful cars and the Rat Pack. Overall these get a very solid nine out of ten. A fantastic classic.
